More Information
Magnesium fluoride is an inorganic compound with the formula MgF2. White crystalline powber, insoluble in water and alcohol, soluble in Nitric acid.

Magnesium Fluoride is used in optics, that are also used in space telescopes. It’s most commonly used on the surfaces of optical elements as inexpensive anti-reflective coatings. It’s also used in the electrolysis of aluminum ore. MgF2 is used to produce-ceramics, glass, windows, lenses, single crystals for polarization.

Sources refer to MgF2 in optics, especially for very short wavelength ultraviolet (known as vacuum ultraviolet because at those wavelengths, ordinary air will block the UV), and for infrared applications.
